Tangents Turkey Music Tour, 2007 Testimonials

David B, San Francisco:

I never even had the fantasy of going to Turkey until I learned about Dore and his musical trips.  Experiencing its different cultures through the magic of music, this tour "for non-tour folks" attracted a wonderfully diverse group of musical pilgrims to share the adventure with.   It was a delightful and profound experience for my first visit to an Islamic country and I felt totally safe the whole time.  Dore was a friendly, knowledgeable, and entertaining guide to this exotic land, supplemented richly by his hand-chosen local guides, selection of music and venues, and daily agendas: from the magnificent splendors of Istanbul to the serenity of Sirince.     It was a blast (and I'm not just referring to Dore's trumpet at the cave concert!).  Go, listen, meet the Turkish people, and ENJOY."

Candice Kollar, San Francisco:

Travel in Turkey with Dore and Clara is an experience of a lifetime. Having done almost no research, I made a wild, impulsive last minute decision to join the Tangents Turkey Tour. There isn't a day I don't feel grateful for having had the opportunity to participate in such a well conceived adventure. Be on the ready for one extraordinary experience after another. With an established network of friends and contacts in all the right places, Dore and Clara deliver a personalized Turkish delight.

I must admit my head was full of misconceptions before I left. I was very naive as to how sophisticated Istanbul is and the richness of world history and culture that Turkey as a whole offers. I learned my way around well enough to navigate on my own. In my experience, the Turkish people were a model of good behavior.

It's a magic carpet ride for those who prefer an on the ground authentic experience – savoring delicious dishes in neighborhood restaurants, mingling with the friendly locals and all to the accompaniment of a full spectrum of live musical treats.

Pat Moran, Palo Alto:

To me good music is a kind of communication, and experiencing music while traveling is a great way to learn about a people and their culture.  Dore and Clara have created a one-of-a-kind adventure to one of the more interesting crossroads of the world: Turkey. The country is a fascinating place, both from historical and musical perspectives.  With respect to history, you can walk in the footsteps of poets, saints and emperors.  Musically, I cannot think of a trip that can match the Tangents tour for musical quality, variety, and quantity. If you love music, this tour is for you. Click here to see Pat's Turkey pictures.

Greg Upwall, San Francisco:

Go to Turkey! That is the advice I have after having been on the tour. Walking up to the roof terrace of the hotel our first morning in Istanbul to see the Aya Sofya and Blue Mosque practically at arms reach in the early morning light was the first of many awe inspiring moments that were throughout the trip. Most every aspect of the trip was varied and diverse. From the pace, to the places we stayed, to the music and the activities, there really was a little of everything included in the two + weeks of the trip. This is not the trip for those who want to spend the whole time seeing a country from the seat of a tour bus, or lying on the beach in a secluded resort. The trip offers opportunities for cultural immersion and exploration, with a good dose of the comfort of familiarity and planning to remind you that you are not alone. Within our group, we quickly became comfortable with splitting up into smaller groups by day and then meeting up later for dinner or a show. Each day really offered something new, from the food, to geography, to the history and contemporary culture that are Turkey. It was never boring. And I have to say, that the Turkish people were among the most gracious and friendly that I've experienced anywhere.
