Limitations of Liability:

Tangents Radio is a Sole Proprietorship registered in California by owner Dore Steinberg.

Dore Steinberg (from now on referred to as Tangents) or Tangents agents are not liable for anything that happens to me or my belongings, for any reason, whether as a result of Tangents negligence, or as the result of the actions of anyone else’s actions or failure to act.  Anything that happens to me may include but is not limited to: personal injury, death, loss, accident, delay, or being victimized by fraud or scam when making personal purchases.

Greece is one of the most earthquake-prone countries in Europe due to its fault lines. In July 2017, a 6.7-magnitude quake rocked Kos, killing two people and injuring scores. A major earthquake measuring 5.9 hit Greece in 1999, leaving 143 people dead.

On July 19,2019 a 5.1 magnitude tremor truck 23 kilometers (14 miles) northwest of Athens, near Magoula.

Dore Steinberg experienced a 5.5 earthquake in Ioannina and at least 10 after shocks. Click here for article.

Greece is is on the frontline of climate disruption. 2023 experienced extensive wildfires and "biblical" storms and rainfall that flooded the city of Volos, Pelion and the Thessaly Plains resulting in death and massive destruction to roads, including bridges. Pelion was removed from the 2023 itinerary due to the unprecedented flooding. Entire villages in Thesaly were wiped out.

During the 2017 Tangents Greece Music Tour while staying in Portaria, Pelion, there was a huge blast caused by a propane leak at a closed restaurant across from our hotel. Fortunately, there were no injuries but the restaurant was partially destroyed as were at least 3 adjacent businesses.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) reported since the beginning of 2023 to 4 October 2023, there were 153 cases, including 47 deaths reported of the mosquito-borne disease West Nile virus (WNV) in Greece. In 2018 there was an outbreak of WNV in Greece including around Athens and Thessaloniki. According to this article a record 316 people were infected with the virus in 2018, resulting in the death of 50 Greeks. Among those diagnosed in Greece, 243 displayed symptoms of neuro-invasive disease such as encephalitis, meningitis and acute paralysis. Peak risk is summer but the above article notes “The last case of [2018’s] transmission season in the EU was reported by France at the end of November."

The Tangents tour includes activities that expose group menbers to physical risk such as hiking on slippery mountain trails and driving on winding mountainous roads. There is extensive walking  including several alternative walking tours that generally last 3-4 hours.

Tangents hereby gives notice that services provided in connection with the Tangents Greece Tour including travel services, hotel accommodations, and dining are purchased from independent suppliers who are not affiliated with Tangents in any way.

Tangents is not responsible for damages, additional expenses, or any other losses due to cancellation, delay or other changes in air schedules or other services, sickness, weather, strike, war, civil disturbances, forces of nature such as earthquakes, torrential rain, fire, acts or threats of terrorism, epidemic, pandemic, travel warnings or bans, quarantine, or acts commonly referred to as force majeure. All such losses must be borne by me, and tour rates provide for arrangements only for the time stated.

If I get ill (see COVID-19 section), injured, or cannot resume travel with the group, all resulting expenses are borne by me. I am aware that medical services and facilities may not be readily available throughout the duration of the tour. I recognize that such risks may be present at any time during the tour.

Tangents will not have liability regarding provision of medical care or the adequacy of any care that may be rendered. While Tangents will use its best efforts to ensure that adequate measures are taken, by agreeing to participate on the Tangents Greece Music Tour, I agree that I will hold Tangents harmless regarding any provision of medical care or the adequacy of any care rendered.

Payment of my deposit and/or any full or partial tour payment indicates I accept these risks and dangers and agree to hold Tangents harmless for such.

I bear full risk for all personal purchases during the Tangents tour. Additionally, I assume full risk for all personal puchases prior to or subsequent to the tour with merchants associated with the Tangents tour whether in Greece, or anywhere, such as the United States. I should exercise caveat emptor, as the buyer alone is responsible for assessing the quality of a purchase before buying. This is especially important when purchasing big ticket art items. For significant purchases Tangents recommends receiving written terms of exchange/return/refund.

I acknowledge risks are inherent in any physical activity; and still other risks may arise from conditions, situations, or activities of which I and Tangents are presently unaware. I fully assume all risk of the above hazards.

I further acknowledge that the above described risks to me – including the possibilities of serious bodily injury, emotional injury, property damage, and death – might occur as a consequence of the negligence of Tangents, its agents, its suppliers, or others.
I hereby release, waive, discharge and forfeit
all actions, claims or demands, including all rights of legal action on behalf of me against Dore Steinberg, Tangents, or its agents and suppliers, arising from their negligence with respect to my willing participation in the Tangents Greece Music Tour.

I further agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Tangents, its agents and suppliers from any legal actions arising from my  participation in the Tangents Greece Music Tour, including those brought by others.

I agree that the terms of this document bind me, my heirs, assigns, executors and administrators, and protect Dore Steinberg, Tangents, and its agents and suppliers.

I am aware that this is a release of liability and a contract between me and Dore Steinberg and that I sign it of my own free will. This release of liability is binding on me, my heirs and successors as well as anyone else who may believe they have a claim based upon something that may happen to me.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Policy

The Tangents Greece Music Tour adheres to the most current guidelines of the CDC. Guidelines are here.

In order to participate on the Tangents Greece Music Tour, participants 65 and older must have proof of receiving a bivalent vaccine recommended by the CDC within one year of departure date. In general, for folks 65+ or immunocompromised, it is highly recommended such a tour participant receive the latest bivalent vaccine. It is also highly recommended tour participants consult their primary care physician for COVID vaccine advice.

If a tour participant tests positive while on tour, the person is obligated to follow the protocols of the local health authorities for quarantining. The tour member bears all expenses associated with testing and quarantining including hotel, food and travel. These expenses are often covered by travel insurance. Those in close contact with the affected tour member will need to be tested, and if positive, follow the same requirements.

The group member may rejoin the tour once the person has quarantined the required time period and show a negative test.

Dore Steinberg will assist in finding accommodations for group members isolated due to COVID infection.

Independent Travel:

Should I decide to not travel with the group or not participate in a group activity, Tangents bears no responsibility or liability whatsoever in connection with any injury, death, loss, sickness, accident or delay which may be occasioned.

Should I decide to travel independently from the group such as renting a car instead of taking the tour bus, or not flying with the group within Greece, I must sign an additional release of liability contract that acknowledges I left the group during the tour of my own free will (even if temporarily) and release Tangents from any responsibility that may result from my action(s).

Non-group activities are borne at my expense. Tangents is released from any responsibility that may result from my actions.

If I choose to leave a group activity, such as leaving a concert early or staying late after the group has left, Tangents is released from any responsibility that may result from my actions and I pay all related expenses.

Responsible Behavior:

I assume responsibility to select a tour most appropriate to my physical ability and interests. I am responsible for being in sufficiently good health to undertake the tour and may be required to obtain a physician’s release.

I will walk a substantial amount especially in Athens. I understand there will also be hiking and modest climbing in Panteleimon, Portaria and possibly Zagorohoria. There are typically about 200 steep steps required to enter the monastery we visit in Meteora.

Damage to property or premises of any entity or agent that Tangents contracts such as a hotel is borne solely and entirely by the tour member responsible for the damage.

I must abide by the authority of the Tour Leader and/or local agents and guides. Any cause of danger, distress or annoyance to the group will be acted upon.

In the sole discretion of Tangents, Tangents may refuse transport to me or may require me to leave the tour if it is reasonably believed that I (1) am dangerous to others (2) engage in behavior that is disruptive, verbally abusive, physically abusive, discriminatory, or obscene; or (3) fail to follow Tangents rules and procedures or its representatives. In the event I am removed, I may be left at any location without any liability to Tangents or its representatives. Tangents shall not be required to refund any portion of the price paid by me under the terms of this paragraph, nor shall Tangents be responsible for expenses for lodging, medical care, meals, transportation, or any other expenses incurred by me. Tangents shall be entitled to recover from me all costs or expenses incurred by Tangents or its representatives as a result of my removal or the exercise or enforcement of this clause.

In case of a dispute about the Tangents tour, litigation will be settled in the courts of San Francisco.

Cancellation:

Tangents reserves the right to cancel any tour prior to departure for any reason such as insufficient enrollment.

All monies paid will be refunded and this will constitute full settlement. Tangents will not be responsible for any expenses that have incurred as a result of my booking, such as international airfare.

Tangents  strongly recommends I purchase trip cancellation and interruption insurance as this may provide coverage under such circumstances.

Trip Cancellation Insurance:

Trip cancellation and interruption insurance is highly recommended. One possible resource is tripinsurancestore.com. A Tangents Turkey tour alum suggests Travel Guard.

For any insurance options Tangents suggets I do my own homework as the options are only suggestions and not recommendations.

Illness and injury remain the most common reasons that prevent travel. Change of mind is not covered unless I have "Cancel for Any Reason" insurance which is about 50% more expensive and must be purchased within 14-21 days of initial payment depending on the company. If I have a pre-existing medical condition, I understand the insurance usually must be purchased within 14 -21 days of my initial tour payment depending on the company. Normal comprehensive travel insurance (that insures theft as well), may range between $250-$300.

Changes to Itinerary:

The schedule may change suddenly due to finding out something marvelous is happening that we must go see. On the other hand, a concert or flight cancellation would cause a change to the itinerary. The given itinerary may change due to a government issued travel advisory warning citizens not to travel to a specific geographical area of Greece. Under such circumstances Tangents reserves the right to operate the tour under an altered itinerary. Some trip insurance policies cover for such an advisory.

Changing conditions in Greece such as the torrential rains in Pelion in 2023, may necessitate itinerary modification before or after the tour has departed. Passengers will be responsible for all increased costs associated with en route itinerary changes or changes in means of conveyance, hotels, tour guides, etc.

Tangents also reserves the right to change common carriers and substitute hotels with properties of similar standard when necessary. Care is taken in the contracting of all services, however we cannot be responsible for the errors or omissions of the suppliers or services.

Visas & Passports:

U.S citizens do not require a visa to travel to Greece.

It is my responsibility to verify passport requirements necessary for the Tangents Greece Music Tour.

Tangents does not accept liability if I am refused entry onto any transport or into Greece due to my failure to carry correct documentation or adhere to specific entry and exit requirements.

I must have a passport to travel internationally or fly within a country. Most countries require that the passport be valid for at least six (6) months beyond the conclusion of my trip. It is recommended I have a minimum of three blank pages in my passport when traveling.  The process of obtaining a passport can take up to three months or more. There is a way to expedite the process if necessary.

Medical Insurance and Certification:

I will be required to provide proof of medical insurance. Everyone in the group should understand their coverage. Tangents will not pay for any expenses incurred for medical reasons. If I will be age 75 or older by October 2025, Tangents Radio requires a signed note from my physician that I am physically fit for travel that includes considerable walking.

For Americans covered by medical insurance at home, I understand many may be covered while traveling abroad. But I need to call my company and check the extent of my coverage in Greece. I should find out in advance if my insurance plan will make payments directly to providers or reimburse me later for overseas health expenditures. In Greece doctors may insist on payment in cash. It is also important to learn if my insurance will cover repatriation home during a medical emergency or to better medical facilities elsewhere in Greece.

Some supplemental insurance options are limited to Americans and Canadians. One option for other Nationals is travelhealthinsurance.net. That will not likely cover preexisting medical conditions for the last 3 years. Generally, $50,000 worth
of coverage should cost about $50.

Other sorts of insurance also may cover medical expenses such as:

— A Trip Cancellation policy may include limited medical protection. I will read myr policy carefully to learn what is covered.

— If I use a premium credit card ("gold," "platinum," etc) and pay for transportation services with it, I may have some flight protection, and also medical coverage. I will get an up-to-date version
of my Credit Card Agreement (probably available online), read the terms, and know what coverage I have.

I can get no-obligation price quotes on all sorts of policies at sites such as tripinsurancestore.com and insuremytrip.com. Another possibility is Travel Guard International.

Emergency Assistance Plus global response center is part of a network that offers customized medical, security, and travel assistance 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Tangents Radio is not familiar with this company. It was suggested by a tour member who went on the Tangents Turkey Tour.

Single Travelers and Single Supplements:

If I want to have my own room throughout the tour, I must pay a single supplement. Payment of a single supplement ($70 per night) will ensure that I am provided with my own room. $1190 single supplement cost ($70 X 17 nights) is due when full payment is made.

Single Supplement status is subject to availability on a first come first served basis when full payment including single supplement is received.

If single supplement payment is not included with full payment, I will be assigned a roommate.

There may be pensions or hotels that do not have sufficient capacity to guarantee a single room and in those cases Tangents will either find a guest house with a single room or refund the $70 for the night.

If a Tangents tour participant wishes to change to a single after the tour begins, it is subject to availability in each overnight stay. Payment is entirely borne by the participant and is paid directly to the hotel prior to check-out. Dore Steinberg will help facilitate the switch if possible.

Single-Share Program:

Tangents has a single-share program where Dore Steinberg selects a  tour participant as a roommate.

The Tangents Tour is not responsible for roommate incompatibility for any reason. But Dore Steinberg will try to find a more suitable roommate when possible.

October 2025 Tour

For Tangents tour members who pay full tour cost after February 28, 2025 and no roommate is assigned, $1190 single supplement cost ($70 X 17) must be paid in addition to the regular ful payment.

If a full-time roommate emerges after the single supplement due date and before the tour begins, the $1190 cost is refunded in full

If full payment is not postmarked by March 15, 2025 the Tangents tour payment schedule is in violation and it is up to the discretion of Dore Steinberg whether to accept late payment and permit the Tangents tour member to join the tour.

If a tour member is not able to join the Tangents tour, all October cancellation fees apply.  (See section "October 2025 Tour Cancellation Fees".)

I grant Tangents express permission to keep a photographic record of its tours for promotional and commercial use.
